"Centered: Art in Medians" will convert 10 streetscapes into public art sites by the hand and minds of local artists selected after competitive RFPs. Their concepts will be introduced to the public at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, at Winchester Cultural Center (3130 McLeod Drive). Each presentation will run 15 minutes, say Clark County organizers. "Public attendees will hear about the designs and will be able to share their opinions and thoughts about the proposed art."

MFA candidates surveyed the space in August.
CATCHING UP:  The band of merry UNLV MFA Fine Art students are exhibiting works at Sahara West Library’s cyclopean gallery space through January 10, 2016.  Opening night for "EXPANDED" is Friday, November 13.  I am in the show with a small example of how I plan to approach text + image works. Come see it. Critique at will.
OTHER UNLV EXHIBITIONS: There are only a few days left for “Through Windows, Through Curtains, Call on Us: Contemporary Cuban Art” at The Beam. It closes November 14. From Kristen Peterson's review in Las Vegas Weekly:
As expected, the show has a heavy political thrust. It actively embodies the experience through works that reveal a beautiful collective soul and testament of spirit in the face of surveillance, isolation, shortages, shaky trust and departures of friends and family, all defining so much of Cuban culture in recent decades.
JK Russ "The Source" 2015. Collage detail.
“Kveck, Russ & Stellmon: Break Ups & Tear Downs” continues at The Barrick until January 23, 2016. From Dawn-Michelle Baude observations in the Las Vegas Weekly:
Deconstruction is key to the exhibition: All three artists process visual representations by cutting them up. But the “break up” and “tear down” title omits that the artists also reassemble the fragments, generating fresh, new ways of looking at familiar content.

COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA: Gary Marx "Past and Present" runs through November 25.
LOW IMPACT PR:  At Nevada State College, timed for the installation of art on the walls of two new campus buildings, the first alum show is on the books. It's called "Paint This Desert" and uses images from this blog's coverage of murals and street art in Las Vegas.  Curated by Angela Brommel. Runs until Winter Break.
