FIELD NOTES: Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced two major donations that push forward a $600 million fundraising campaign for a new building for LACMA, reports the LATimes. Elaine Wynn,  who co-founded Mirage Resorts and Wynn Resorts with former husband, Steve Wynn, pledged $50 million to the project. From the LATimes:  "Skeptics abounded when plans were first announced three years ago. But momentum now seems to be shifting in LACMA's favor with the announcement this week of two major donations that will push the fundraising campaign near the halfway point."

I've always loved L.A. I consider it to be a suburb of Las Vegas,
but Las Vegas is really a suburb of L.A."

FIELD NOTES: Titled  "Thumbs Up",  this Robin Stark and Eric Pawloski sculpture are some of the works now being installed on highway medians under the Clark County Public Art program. This version of the site-specific public art sits at 2925 North Pecos Rd., near Las Vegas Boulevard. . . American Cousin: The bold characters in motion have a visual kinship to East Germany's Ampelmännchen, the British designed traffic light figure that has been strutting in green since 2005.
